The 29th annual Silver Bullet Ladies Golf Classic — described by organizers as “the ultimate girls weekend” — takes place July 18 and 19 at Yampa Valley Golf Course as an individual stroke play format with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. both days. Handicap information is required to register.

A single entry is $120, and discounts are offered for those returning who bring in new players, the deadline to register Saturday.

Practice rounds will be available July 17, and for those coming from out of town, special room rates have been arranged at Clarion Inn & Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites and Deer Park Inn & Suites.

Early deadline Friday to register for ‘over-the-line’ tourney

As part of Moffat County Balloon Festival, Craig residents will be hosting a tournament of the game “over-the-line” Aug. 1 and 2 at Loudy-Simpson Park.

Originally created by Old Mission Beach Athletic Club, over-the-line is a variation of bat and ball games like baseball and softball that involves three-person teams.

Hitters do not run any bases, and the field consists of a triangle in place of home plate and a rectangle for fielders.

Local organizers are seeking as many teams as possible for three divisions: co-ed, women and youth ages 12-15. Teams consist of a captain, two players and an optional substitute. Demonstrations will be available July 16 and 23 for those unfamiliar with the game.

The cost is $60 to register by Friday, with players receiving a guaranteed t-shirt, hot dog and a beer garden ticket for ages 21 and older. Late entry will be available until July 28 for $75 with no tickets nor guarantee of shirts.

Proceeds will benefit Craig Youth Baseball.

Summer Cheer Camp begins July 20

Registration is open for Summer Cheer Camp, a program for girls in first- through sixth-grade to learn more about the sport of cheerleading.

Sessions will be available twice weekly starting July 20 as participants learn hip-hop choreography routines and cheering chants, which they will employ during the Doak Walker football games and the Moffat County High School Homecoming halftime show in the fall.

Cheerleaders will also learn responsibility, make friends and, most importantly, have fun.

The cost is $60, and the deadline to register at Craig Parks & Recreation, 300 W. Fourth St., is July 15. Late entries may be accepted but will include a $10 fee.

Doak Walker football registration open

Craig Parks & Recreation’s Doak Walker tackle football program is seeking players, coaches and officials. Registration is open for boys and girls entering third- through sixth-grade to play this fall.

The program stresses equal participation skill development and fun with practices and games three times weekly throughout the season, which will run from late August through October.

The cost is $60 to play, and the deadline to sign up is July 15. Weigh-ins and equipment checkouts will take place July 22. A coaches meeting will be offered Aug. 5, and a clinic for players and coaches will take place Aug. 17.

Volleyball camps offered for Moffat County, Craig athletes

The Moffat County High School and Craig Middle School volleyball programs will host camps for players July 29 to 31. Current and incoming high school players will attend MCHS, 900 Finley Lane, and CMS will be in the gym of Sandrock Elementary School, 201 E. Ninth St.

Overseeing the program will be Chris Wells, head coach for the Chadron State College volleyball team. Girls from outside Moffat County are also invited to attend.

Parks & Recreation providing volleyball camp for middle school players

Craig Parks & Recreation will host a volleyball camp for sixth- through eighth- graders Aug. 10 to 13 at Craig Middle School, 915 Yampa Ave. Becky Howlett will instruct players in beginning and intermediate skills.

Registration is $30 and includes a t-shirt. Participants must bring athletic shoes, knee pads, a water bottle and a tennis ball.

Billiards league getting organized for fall

BCA Pool League will begin its sixth season in September at The Popular Bar, 24 W. Victory Way, and teams are already forming and seeking players.

The 9-Ball league takes place at 5 p.m. Sundays starting Sept. 13, consisting of three-person teams with a total of 5 players allowed on teams. The 8-Ball games are at 6 p.m. Mondays, beginning Sept. 14, with five-person teams and a total of eight players allowed on teams.

Players can qualify for a Las Vegas trip during both nights. The city champions from the past season will be competing at the nationals later this month.

Yearly fees are $20 to play in both leagues and in all other events. Nightly fees are $5 for 9-Ball and $6 for 8-Ball, plus the cost of coins.
