Craig Sports Briefs for Jan. 9, 2015: Northwest Colorado natives nab $220k at roping finals

Mike Robson and Gary Rodarmel recently won $220,000 for their finish at the World Series of Team Roping Finals in Las Vegas in December.

The two qualified for the large-scale rodeo event after winning an event in Loveland. They placed second with a time of 32.37 seconds in the Short Go event, which paid out more than $1.7 million to all competitors.

Rodarmel currently lives in Craig and works with steers, while Robson was born in Craig, grew up in Steamboat Springs and currently resides in Strasburg shoeing horses.

Deadline extended for Parks and Rec basketball

There is still time to sign up your child for Craig Parks and Recreation basketball. The registration deadline is now Monday for boys and girls in kindergarten through second-grade.

The cost is $40, and the season will take place from February to April. Those who register late will be placed on a waiting list with no guarantee of placement.

Men’s hockey tourney this weekend

The Craig Red Dogs will host the 21st annual Yampa Valley Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Loudy-Simpson Park Ice Arena, 600 S. Ranney St.

Teams from around Colorado, including Steamboat Springs, Denver, Grand Junction and Eagle will attend, as well as from Wyoming, such as Casper, Laramie and Rock Springs.

The three-day event will culminate in a championship round Sunday morning.

Bowling event takes place Saturday

Thunder Rolls Bowling Center, 990 Industrial Ave., will feature a scotch doubles tournament starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. Registration is $25 per two-person team, and there is no limit on how many times a person can enter.

There will be a 100 percent prize payback for winners.

Indoor soccer games begin this week

A series of indoor soccer games are available at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. Highway 40.

Games are from 7 to 9 p.m., boys on Mondays and Wednesdays and girls on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Participation is limited to students in grades eight through 12.

A separate event is offered for adults, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sundays through March, also at the Boys & Girls Club.

The adult co-ed league is $1 per player per night.
