Craig Sports Briefs for Dec. 19, 2015: BCA Pool teams breaking for Christmas

Because of the holiday season, BCA Pool League will not have games Sunday, Monday, Dec. 27 and 28 at The Popular Bar, 24 W. Victory Way.

Normal play will resume the first week of 2016.

BCA’s 9-Ball league takes place at 5 p.m. Sundays, consisting of three-person teams with a total of 5 players allowed on teams. The 8-Ball games are at 6 p.m. Mondays, with five-person teams and a total of eight players allowed on teams.



Players must be 21-years old and over and can qualify for a Las Vegas trip during both nights.

Yearly fees are $20 to play in both leagues and in all other events. Nightly fees are $5 for 9-Ball and $6 for 8-Ball, plus the cost of coins.

Elks Hoop Shoot available to local kids

The Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest takes place in Craig today at Sandrock Elementary School, 201 E. Ninth St.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the contest is free and open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. Each participant will shoot five practice throws and 25 regular free throws.

Winners will be eligible for future competitions at the district, state, regional and national levels.

Acknowledge worthy coaches with national award

Nominations are open for the 2016 Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Award.

Each year, the program honors 50 youth and high school coaches who lead athletes to victory while also teaching life lessons through sports.

Nominations may come from a school or youth sports organization leader, fellow coach, parent, athlete, friend or family member. The award includes a $200 prize, a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to California in April to accept the honor at the National Youth Sports Awards, a certificate and recognition in PCA’s website, newsletters and media campaigns.

The program will accept nominations through Dec. 31.
