Craig Sports Briefs for April 29, 2015: Craig Middle School track winding down season with relay meet and more this week
Craig Middle School’s Moffat County Night Relays will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday at Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane.
The relay event will be a new experience for CMS, which will also attend The Best of the Best Friday in Baggs, Wyoming.
Additionally, the Soroco Invitational, originally scheduled for earlier this month, will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at MCHS.
Moffat County swimmers compete at Mustang Invitational
The Moffat County High School boys swim team recently placed 19th at the Mustang Invitational Friday and Saturday in Thornton.
The large-scale event had more than 150 athletes in certain races, with the Bulldogs’ best results in the 200-meter freestyle relay, Chris Kling and Steamboat Springs swimmers Sean Portman and Brenden Carta joined by Jacob Briggs, temporarily replacing Jesse Kurz, achieving a time of 1 minute, 49.43 seconds.
Other highlights included Kling placing 30th in both the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle, the 200 medley relay taking 32nd, Portman 33rd in the 200 individual medley, Carta No. 34 in the 100 fly and Daniel Rockwell 50th in the 100 breaststroke.
The team’s last regular meet will take place this Saturday in Glenwood Springs, followed by the league championships May 8 and 9 in Grand Junction.
Craig billiards league to host weekend championship
BCA Pool Leagues has completed its regular season, starting in early September at The Popular Bar, 24 W. Victory Way, with a Sunday 9-ball league and a Monday 8-ball league.
The league will host the city championships Saturday and Sunday, as the top teams face off for who will go to the larger event in Las Vegas.

Dude Dent awards night scheduled for May
Moffat County High School will host its annual Lewis “Dude” Dent Memorial Award Selection Dinner at 6 p.m. May 21 at the Clarion Inn & Suites, 300 S. Colorado Highway 13.
The event honors the top male and female athletes senior athletes for their prowess in both sports and academics. The Dude Dent is named in honor of Dent, who was a scholar athlete in Moffat County in the 1930s before being killed in action during World War II.
The evening is $15 per plate. Tickets can be purchased through MCHS athletes or at the school.
