Craig Police Department pursued speeding vehicle through city limits

Craig Police Department pursued a speeding vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The vehicle, which had New Mexico license plates, was exceeding the speed limit, but when cops began pursuit the driver kept going. This was technically not a chase because after officers flashed their lights the driver continued, but did not continue to violate laws, said Craig Police Chief Walt Vanatta.

When the driver passed city limits officers called in Colorado State Patrol for help, he said.

“Our chase policy is extremely restrictive and it needs to be a violent felony before we chase people,” Vanatta said.

The driver was not apprehended.
