Craig nurse writes from foreign assignment

Dear family and friends:

We have had an excellent trip so far. Bangkok, Thailand was great. We had a personal tour of the city and saw many beautiful Buddhist temples by Sai Chai, a former student of one of my teammates.

We went to a Thai restaurant called “Cabbages and Condoms,” which was owned by a governmental official in charge of population control! Instead of an after-dinner mint, we were each given a condom! I also went to a Rotary meeting at our hotel. It was very fancy three-piece suits and a gourmet meal. I was the only woman! They asked me to speak and took my picture with them giving me a club banner.

Today (July 31) we flew to Hanoi and went to the famous water puppet show. We will take a short tour of a pottery village tomorrow and then to a museum.

It is very hot and humid so we are drinking lots of bottled water. Unlike my first visit here two years ago, it is the rainy season. I got drenched once and now carry my umbrella everywhere (just wish we could bring some of this moisture back to Colorado!)

My teammates are wonderful and we are getting along well. It should be fun team teaching with them. Saturday (Aug. 3) we fly to Ho Chi Minh City where we will be until Aug. 17. I am looking forward to meeting the students and faculty and hope we have been assigned a good interpreter!

More later!

Love, Marilyn,

writing from Ho Chi Minh City
