Craig native to perform at church

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

When Collin Stoddard left the successful contemporary Christian band 33Miles in 2010, the Craig native said he was returning to his true passion: spreading the word of God.

"Everybody is struggling and people want to know that their concerns and hurts are legitimate and that someone cares," Stoddard, now a worship pastor in Granger, Ind., said on his website, "My job is (to) tell them that Jesus cares. He's leading them. It's simply a matter of us listening."

Stoddard will have a chance at 7 p.m. Thursday to bring that message back to his hometown when he performs a free concert of Christian music at the Journey at First Baptist Church, 1150 W. Ninth St.

Stoddard is expected to perform music found on "Songs From Brookside," an album of solo piano music he released earlier this year, as well as from a forthcoming release entitled "Fight For Me."

"Many of these songs are just prayers for my family and for direction, but explain the reality of struggling with faith, and the desire to seek him and put our desires before him," Stoddard said on his website about the songs on "Fight For Me."

When he formed 33Miles in early 2006, Stoddard, the Son of Jeff and Keli Stoddard, was studying commercial piano performance on a music scholarship at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., where he intended on pursuing full time church ministry before finding success with the contemporary Christian group, the website stated.

After deciding to refocus on ministry, Stoddard became a worship pastor at Grace church in Granger, where he currently lives with his wife, Jenna and their two children, Gabby and Palmer. When not leading his church in northern Indiana, he travels — sometimes with his family — to bring his music to churches across the country, according to the website.
