Craig — Moffat County School District Board of Education will convene its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the board room in the district administration building, 775 Yampa Ave.

The agenda includes policy action items regarding staff fringe benefits and flexible benefit plans, for which a public hearing will be held at the work session.

The board work session will precede the meeting at 3:30 p.m., and agenda items include the superintendent evaluation, Maybell transportation request and certification of the mill levy.

Parenting class offers tools, free dinner, free childcare

Connections 4 Kids is offering a free Incredible Years parenting class to parents of preschool-age kids, kindergarteners and first-graders, featuring tools to support the social, emotional and academic development of their child.

Free dinner and free professional childcare are provided for each class.

The class will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday for 14 weeks starting Jan. 19 at East Elementary School. It will be offered in both English and Spanish and is open to all parents, regardless of which school their children attend.

The Incredible Years program offers instruction on how to create more positive relationships with your children, effective tools for discipline and new ideas for helping your child to grow and learn.

CNCC offers free week of adult read-write program in January

Colorado Northwestern Community College is offering a read-write program to help adults who are struggling with reading to improve their skills.

Classes meet twice per week and two sections will be offered, one on Mondays and Wednesdays and the other on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting the week of Jan. 11. Students are invited to try the class for free for the first week of Jan. 11.

The classes run for a full semester and maintain small class sizes of five individuals maximum. The cost is $25, and scholarships are available for students who qualify.

Moffat County Library Winter Reading Program underway

The Moffat County Library’s Winter Reading Program is underway and this year’s theme is “Slide Into a Good Book.”

Kids are encouraged to spend time with their nose in a book this winter with incentives and prize drawing for the pages they read. The youth program is for kids up to fifth-grade, the teen program is for sixth through twelfth-graders and an adult program for ages 18 and older offers a monthly prize drawing, one entry for each book read.

English as a second language course available through CNCC

Colorado Northwestern Community College offers English as a second language for non-native English speakers, with a new session starting in January.

The class meets twice per week in the evenings and uses Rosetta Stone and other supplemental materials to guide learning. Starting in the spring semester, CNCC will also implement new software that can teach students industry-specific language tailored to their job needs.

The course features individualized instruction, small class sizes, flexible meeting times and allows students to progress at their own pace.
