The Craig Daily Press has added a reporter to its staff.

Darian Warden, 22, formerly of Greeley, started at the Daily Press Tuesday as the new education and health care reporter.

Warden will be covering Moffat County School District and The Memorial Hospital in Craig as part of her daily beat, in addition to general assignment duties.

“This is a good beat and I think it’s going to be really interesting,” she said. “It feels like the community is really focused on providing the best education for its kids.”

Warden, originally from Lawrence, Kan., moved to Greeley at the age of 10 with her father, Steve, whose background is in the retail lumber business; mother, Larea, a fourth grade teacher at Harold S. Winograd school in Greeley; and brother, Trevor, a current student at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.

Warden graduated in May from Colorado State University with a degree in journalism and technical communications and a minor in English.

In addition to her college background, Warden comes to Craig with intern experience from the Greeley Tribune where she covered Town of Windsor board meetings this past summer.

This is Warden’s first full-time reporting job.

“We’re very excited to have Darian on board with us. She has a solid background with her education and internship experience, and she’s obviously hungry to get started here,” said Jerry Martin, content manager for the Daily Press. “I’m confident that she will do an outstanding job, and I look forward to reading her work.”

When not on the job, Warden says she enjoys reading, running and exploring the outdoors.

She’s hoping her Golden Retriever puppy, Laney, will provide her with the opportunity to enjoy all of the recreational trails Moffat County has to offer.

“I wanted to stay in Colorado and I heard this part of the state is beautiful,” Warden said. “I’m really looking forward to a lot of new experiences.”
