Craig Daily Press accepting applications for Citizens Academic Scholarship
The Craig Daily Press is now accepting applications for the 2013 Citizens Academic Scholarship, $500 to be applied to the Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig.
Current Moffat County High School seniors and graduates within the last three years are eligible to apply, as long as they are U.S. citizens and current residents of Moffat, Rio-Blanco, Routt or Carbon counties. Graduates must be enrolled for the fall semester at CNCC.
Scholarship recipients will be evaluated based on the ability to follow instructions, demonstrate leadership qualities, community involvement, academic achievement and financial need.
Each applicant must submit their application along with supporting documents to MCHS or the Daily Press office, 466 Yampa Ave., before 4 p.m. on April 15.
Supporting documents include a minimum 500 word essay answering how the scholarship will benefit you at CNCC and in your future pursuits of a bachelor’s degree in an institution of higher learning, and an answer to the question, “What is one special aspect you would like the scholarship committee to know about you?”
An additional essay 250 words or less addressing why you wish to continue your education and why you are deserving of the scholarship should be included as well.
Applicants should include their resume, including school and community involvement as well as work history, high school transcript and ACT/SAT test scores and three letters of personal reference from non family members.
Applicants will have a personal interview with the scholarship committee and need to provide two copies of the completed application and supporting documents.
The scholarship committee will let scholarship winners know by May 5, and then award scholarships at the graduation ceremony or with proof of a high school diploma.
Scholarship money will be sent to CNCC and will be credited to the recipients account upon proof of enrollment. The scholarship is to be used for tuition and/or book expenses.
For more information or to pick up an application with complete instructions contact Paula Duzik, MCHS counselor at 826-6610 or the Daily Press at 824-7031.
