2 teens arrested in incident

Two male teens were caught vandalizing the West Theatre, Print Shop and Smoker Friendly late Monday evening.

The teens are ages 17 and 14.

A third suspect fled the scene, but police know his identity and will contact him, said Craig Police Lt. John Forgay.

Police received a call from a resident at about midnight about three suspicious individuals. Police investigated and found the three buildings had been spray-painted with the words “Damage Lives.”

Lt. Forgay said the department would look at the severity of the damage and then decide which charges should be brought against the juveniles. The juveniles could face criminal mischief charges, Forgay said.

Smoker Friendly Manager JoDeena Bullock said the vandalism was only on one side of the building, and the damage was not too bad.

This vandalism comes on the heels of the Moffat County courthouse getting vandalized last month. Forgay wouldn’t say whether the two incidents are connected.

“At this point, it’s a little early to say,” he said.

The courthouse was vandalized May 5 when one sentence used a derogatory word in reference to police, near what seemed to be a picture of a Maltese cross. Another phrase said, “The truth will set you free but these laws will never let you be free.” It seemed to have a signature attached to it.

Police have had some leads in the courthouse case, but said it is still under investigation.
