Gas prices continue to fall, according to site
Average retail gasoline prices in Colorado fell 3.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.01 per gallon as of Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,158 gas outlets in Colorado. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.21 per gallon, according to gasoline price website http://www.gasbuddy.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Colorado during the past week, prices Tuesday were 14.2 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 13.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has increased 0.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 3.8 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
"Another downward trend in gasoline prices has emerged as motorists hit the roads in the last full week before Christmas," said http://www.gasbuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Historically, this is about the time of year that gasoline prices hit their yearly lows, but this time around, I have more optimism that prices may move even lower in the next few weeks. As we finish our 2014 forecast at GasBuddy in the near future, we can say that 2014 does offer some relief compared to what we'll end up seeing in terms of average in 2013, but for the time being, the next week looks to see a continued drop in gasoline prices."
GasBuddy operates http://www.coloradogasprices.com and more than 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at more than 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada. In addition, GasBuddy offers a free smartphone app, which has been downloaded more than

AAA: 1.6M Coloradans to travel during holidays
AAA Colorado projects that 1.6 million Coloradans (31.4 percent of the state's population) will travel 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday season, an increase of 0.5 percent over last year, according to a release. Spanning the Christmas and New Year holidays and two weekends, the year-end holiday period is defined as Saturday, Dec. 21, to Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Approximately 90 percent of Colorado travelers or 1.45 million people plan to travel by automobile during the year-end holidays. This is a 0.9 percent increase from last year.
Air travel is expected to decrease 1.7 percent as 113,000 holiday travelers will take to the skies. Those traveling by air will find airfares slightly lower than last year according to AAA's Leisure travel Index. During Christmas week the average lowest round-trip rate is $199 for the top 40 U.S. air routes compared to $204 last year.
According to AAA's Leisure Travel Index, hotel rates for AAA Three Diamond lodgings are expected to average $138 per night compared to $142 last year. Travelers planning to stay at AAA Two Diamond hotels can expect to pay an average cost of $102 per night, compared to $101 in 2012.
