Craig briefs: Rep. Scott Tipton to visit northern Colorado next week

Congressman Scott Tipton will be doing a round of town hall meetings in northern Colorado. He’ll be talking about various issues, including health care, immigration and the economy. He also will discuss the legislation he is preparing that he said will create jobs. Tipton will be in Craig on Thursday at The Memorial Hospital from 6 to 7 p.m. He’ll swing by Steamboat Springs on Aug. 30 to grab a coffee and talk with citizens at MountainBrew from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Then he’ll stop by Walden’s Moose Creek Cafe from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 31.

Class of 1973 to hold reunion this weekend

The Class of 1973 is having its 40th class reunion Friday through Sunday. Participants meet at 6 p.m. Friday for a welcome luau at J.W. Snack’s Bar & Grill. A barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 779 Taylor St., and at 6 p.m., a dinner buffet will be served at the Holiday Inn of Craig. Live music will be on hand. Reunion patrons meet again at 10 a.m. Sunday for breakfast at O.P. Bar & Grill.

Taste of Home Cooking School event Sept. 16

Craig is slated to get a big treat next month when The Taste of Home Cooking School cooks up various meals and conversation Sept. 16 at the Moffat County High School auditorium.

Taste of Home’s culinary specialist, Kristi Larson, will be at the auditorium to share her home cooking tips and tricks while demonstrating step-by-step recipes for the season’s best dishes. This season’s event is brought to Craig by the Craig Daily Press.

Tickets can be purchased from the event’s premier sponsors: Craig Daily Press, Miller Family Appliance, Jackson’s Office Supply and Blue Ribbon Kitchens.

Attendees will have an opportunity to experience recipe demonstrations using ingredients that are found easily at the local grocery store, and the dishes are submitted by home cooks from across the country.

Attendees will receive a gift bag, including the Taste of Home Cooking School magazine. The 68-page special issue includes recipes featured during the program, along with many more, as well as coupons from participating national food companies. Attendees also can enter for a chance to win one of many door prizes, including the recipes created onstage that night.

CPW to host ‘Mule Deer 101’ in Grand Junction

Every hunting season brings novice mule deer hunters into the field, eager to learn and have a successful hunt. For new hunters who may not have a mentor, or experienced hunters that are looking for an edge, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will host a free, Mule Deer Hunting 101 class Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Building, 711 Independent Ave. in Grand Junction.

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s Community Health Center is offering low-cost birth control, STD screenings (for men and women), pap smears, breast exams and general women’s health care based on income.
