Craig briefs: Mother seeks info on ‘runaway son’

A local woman is asking the public to contact her or the Craig Police Department if anyone knows the whereabouts of her son, a 16-year-old Moffat County High School sophomore, who it is believed has run away.

U.S. Forest Service seeking proposals

The U.S. Forest Service is soliciting proposals for an Indefinite Quality Contract on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. The work will consist of felling, limbing, skidding, decking and removing hazardous trees from the National Forests.

Fuel treatments may include chipping, whole-tree yarding, lopping and scattering slash, rolled chipping, hand or machine piling, and machine trampling.

The work will take place in campgrounds, picnic areas, trailheads, administrative sites, and along Forest Service, state and county roads that are within or run adjacent to the National Forests. Timber will be traded for services.

Any eligible small business may submit a proposal, which the Forest Service will consider.

The agency anticipates multiple awards will be made. The length of the contract will be from one to five years.

DOW sponsors ‘Cast and Blast’ clinic for women

The Colorado Division of Wildlife Women Afield program is sponsoring a “Cast & Blast” clinic for women Aug. 1 in Steamboat Springs. The clinic teaches participants to learn to fly fish and shoot a shotgun.

The clinics are designed for women ages 12 and older.

The clinic runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants spend the day with Division of Wildlife staff while learning and practicing shooting and fishing techniques. No prior experience or equipment is required. Participants are asked to participate for the entire duration.

The cost is $15 and covers lunch. Pre-registration is required. No license or previous education is required. Slots are limited. To sign up or for more information, call the Steamboat DOW office at 970-870-2197.

Hunters who stalk big game in Western Colorado can find valuable information in the 2009 hunting guides that are now posted on the Colorado Division of Wildlife Web site.

The 2009 versions of Big Game Hunting in Northwest Colorado and Big Game Hunting in Southwest Colorado can be found in the “Hunting” section at

Included in the guides are hunting statistics from the 2008 seasons, hunting tips, regulation advisories, important dates, phone numbers for DOW and federal agency offices, descriptions of terrain, hunting outlook information and much more. Information on bear and moose hunting also is available.
