Hayden museum to host Smithsonian exhibit

The Hayden Heritage Center has been chosen by Colorado Humanities to be one of only six museums in Colorado to host the Smithsonian exhibit “Journey Stories” in 2013.

The exhibit will be available from July 19 through Aug. 24. Admission to the museum and the exhibit are free. The opening reception is from 4 to 7 p.m. July 19, according to a press release.

The museum also will be hosting a number of events correlating with the exhibit, including:

■ July 20: Free “Routt” beer floats after the Hayden Daze Parade until noon

■ July 21: Pioneer Picnic at the historic Hayden Granary with Belle Zars, author, professor and granddaughter of Ferry Carpenter. Free.

■ Aug 3: Car show with the Babson Carpenter Tech Center — Music, food, demos, $25 registration per car with a $500 cash prize. Antique cars at the museum. Free to spectators.

■ Aug 10: Railroad Days Centennial Celebration, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A street festival at the museum. Model railroad display created by Moffat RR Museum, Outdoor Mountain Man exhibit, Chautauqua show, demos, arts and crafts vendors, music, food and more. Dance with live music by the John Wayne Band.

■ Aug 15 and 16: Wagon tour rides of historic Hayden from the fairgrounds to the museum. 

■ Aug 24: Tour the Yampa Valley Regional Airport. Call for reservations.

CDOT sets open house about safety on Colo. 133

The Colorado Department of Transportation is hosting a public open house Wednesday to share details about the upcoming safety and mobility improvements on Colorado Highway 133 in Carbondale.

The open house — no formal presentation will be given — will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carbondale Town Hall, 511 Colorado Ave., according to a press release.

Colo. 133 roadway construction is anticipated to begin in April 2014.
