Craig briefs: Many state offices close

In observance of Labor Day, many state offices will be closed today.

State driver’s license offices, the Department of Public Health and Environment’s vital records office and executive branch departments will be among the closed facilities.

All of Colorado’s state parks will be open and staffed, but Colorado Parks and Wildlife administrative offices and wildlife service centers will be closed. State troopers will be patrolling the highways and Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be working as necessary.

Meeker Classic event kicks off Wednesday

A premier sheepdog competition that draws on the area’s ranching and cultural heritage starts Wednesday and runs through Sunday outside Meeker along Colorado Highway 13.

The event features more than 100 border collies competing in herding trials, as well as a full schedule of educational and entertainment opportunities.
