Craig briefs: Love INC. holds school supply drive

— Throughout August and September, community members can help needy students be ready for the first day of school by donating new school supplies to Love INC.’s Project School Supply.

A donation bin will be set up at Wal-Mart, or donations can be dropped of at the Love INC. Resource Center from 2 to 5 p.m. at 656 School St.

Donated backpacks should contain:



• Five pencils

• One 24 pack of crayons



• One 12 pack of colored pencils.

• One package of loose leaf paper

• Two spiral notebooks

• One box of tissues

• One pair of safety scissors

• One pencil sharpener

• One 12-inch ruler

• School glue

• One eraser

• One red pen

• Blue or black pens

• Typing paper (optional)

• A small surprise gift (optional)

Monetary donations will also be accepted. A donation of $25 will fill one needy child’s backpack.

Craig Middle School to offer new building tours

On Monday, Craig Middle School staff will offer incoming students tours of the new building.

Sixth-graders should meet at 10:30 a.m. at the south entrance, seventh-graders at 11:30 a.m. and eighth-graders at 12:30 p.m.

Students and parents will learn about respecting the new building, new parking and drop-off procedures, and have the chance to ask questions.

Assistant principal Jill Hafey also invites incoming ninth-graders on a tour at 1:30 p.m. so they can view the results of the construction they sat through during the 2008-09 school year.

An open house for the public to view the building will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

The public also can wander the building or receive a tour.

Environmental coalition planning green tour

The Colorado Environmental Coalition is seeking home and business owners who are willing to show innovative uses of sustainable energy practices – energy efficiency measures, solar and wind power, geothermal and others – as part of a green homes/businesses tour.

The organization also is seeking volunteers to help plan the tour.

Health group cancels Steamboat presentation

Colorado Voices for Coverage, a coalition of four Colorado nonprofits, has canceled a presentation that was scheduled for Tuesday in Steamboat Springs.

The group had planned to host its event at Yampa Valley Medical Center, however organizers reported Friday that the gathering has been delayed until later this month.

A time, date and location has not been released.
