Craig briefs: Hunter education course offered Aug. 17 to 20

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is sponsoring a Hunter Education Course for four nights beginning Aug. 17. Classes will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Craig campus. All four classes must be attended. Space is limited, and pre-registration is encouraged.

Register now for Mud Splash volleyball event

The Craig Chamber of Commerce is accepting registration for its annual Mud Splash mud volleyball tournament. The event is 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at Loudy-Simpson Park, west of the soccer fields.

Registration forms are available at, or at the chamber’s office, 360 E. Victory Way. The deadline to register is Aug. 7.

Colorado archaeologist to teach local class

The Vermillion Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society is offering a class on prehistoric lithics and description Aug. 28 through 30.

The lithics course introduces individuals to the technology of stone tool manufacture, the identification of tool classes, and basic lithic analysis.

Kevin Black, Colorado Assistant State Archaeologist, will teach the class.
