Craig briefs for Oct. 6
Names released in crash
Routt County Deputy Coroner Mitch Locke released the names Friday of two men that were killed in a head-on crash west of Hayden on Thursday.
Daniel J. Richards, 25, of Hockessin, Del., and 36-year-old Craig resident Gustavo Gonzalez were killed at about 2 p.m. after the men’s vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 40 west of the Yampa River State Park.
A 15-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy that were riding in Gonzalez’s vehicle suffered moderate injuries and were taken to the hospital to be treated.
All four people involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Chad Dunlap said Thursday.
Richards and Gonzalez died after Gonzalez’s white Chrysler sedan drifted from the westbound lane of traffic into the eastbound lane of traffic striking Richards’ red Ford Focus.
Drugs, alcohol and speed are not suspected to be contributing factors, Dunlap said.
Locke did not know the men’s preliminary causes of death Friday. The bodies were sent to Jefferson County for autopsies. Results are expected Tuesday, he said.
8:16 a.m. At Loaf ‘N Jug, police in Craig responded to a traffic stop. Craig police said a verbal warning was issued to a driver. Police in Craig responded to at least five additional traffic stops Friday.
