Auditions near for Craig Idol

The Yampa Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines will be hosting a Craig Idol contest at their annual show Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at the Moffat County High School auditorium.

Anyone in the Yampa Valley and surrounding area 14 years old and older may audition to participate in the contest. The top five finalists will compete in the show. The audience will be the judges during the show and will vote for their favorite Craig Idol.

Winners will be announced at the end of the evening and all five finalists will receive cash or prizes.

Auditions will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Sunset Elementary School. A committee from the Yampa Valley Chorus will select the five finalists. Contestants may bring his or her own accompaniment or sing accapella.

Wyoming poet to read work

Wyoming poet William Stocks is scheduled to read from his new book of poetry, “Across the Longing Bridge,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Downtown Books, 543 Yampa Ave. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Call 824-5343 for more information.

Stocks is a life-long resident of the Dixon, Wyo., and describes himself as a blue-collar family man with a kind of existentialist philosophy. He is a member of the Steamboat Springs Writers Group and the American Poetry Consortium.

“Across the Longing Bridge” is his first collection of poems, covering a broad spectrum of subjects and feelings from the ’60s to paradise.
