Pumpkin giveaway Saturday

There is a pumpkin giveaway and Love INC-sponsored coat, hat and mitten drive from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at three locations: Homemaker Furnishings at 468 Yampa Ave.; Stillwater Motors at 458 Ranney St.; and Black Dog Cycles at 464 Ranney St.

Elementary school-aged children can pick out one free pumpkin at no charge while supplies last. Locations also will accept coats, hats and mittens for Love INC to distribute within the community.

Hunter safety class starts Monday

Monday is the first day of a weeklong hunter safety course at the Hayden High School media room. Classes run 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Class meets at the gun range Saturday morning, time to be announced. Cost is $5. A minimum of 10 students is needed. Call 870-2197 or 276-3338.

Flying disc throwing clinic Oct. 20

There will be a flying disc throwing clinic for anyone interested in learning about the sport of disc dog competition and having fun at 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig.

The clinic will be taught by Chris Booth with help from CSU Extension. Honey Rock Dogs Boarding Kennel will host the event, which is free to the public. Tips on teaching dogs to catch a disc also will be presented. Official Colorado Disc Dogs discs will be available at the clinic for $3 each.

Plans are in the works to bring a Colorado Disc Dogs competition to Craig in summer 2008. This sport is a family-friendly event that is open to people and their dogs of all levels of ability.

Singers wanted for Messiah performances

Singers are wanted for Handel’s Messiah. Rehearsals are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 30, at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs.

Performances are at the Christian Center in Steamboat on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23.

Volunteer to smokeout disease, cancer Nov. 15

The Colorado Northwest Visiting Nurse Association is encouraging residents to “be a health ambassador for your community,” according to a press release. “Help prevent lung disease, cancer, and heart disease. Volunteer for the Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 15.”

Fall salad luncheon fundraiser on Oct. 18

The Hayden Congregational Women’s Fellowship Fall salad luncheon is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Parish Hall, 202 East Jefferson Ave. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

The Women’s Fellowship hosts two salad luncheons per year in order to raise money to donate to various mission projects and/or charitable organizations.
