Craig briefs: Community college cookout Wednesday
Colorado Northwestern Community College is hosting its annual Community Cookout Wednesday at its Craig Campus.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.
There will be hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages. The event is free and open to the public.
Francisco Reina offers free soccer lessons
Local resident and retired soccer coach Francisco Reina offers free soccer lessons to any local resident interested in learning.
Sessions are available to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Vet services offered Aug. 31 in Craig
The staff of the Grand Junction Veterans Center will have office hours from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 31 at the Colorado Workforce Center, 480 Barclay, in Craig.
If you are a veteran in need of assistance, call the Vet Center at 970-245-4156 to set up an appointment.
Services provided include:
• Individual counseling
• Group counseling
• Marital/family counseling
• Alcohol/drug assessment and referral or counseling
• Spouse/significant other group
• Benefits assistance and referral
• Employment counseling and guidance
• Community education
• Liaison with VA facilities
• Sexual trauma counseling
Love Inc. organizes school supply drive
Throughout August and September, community members can help needy students be ready for the first day of school by donating new school supplies to Love Inc.’s Project School Supply.
A donation bin will be set up at Walmart, or donations can be dropped of at the Love Inc. Resource Center from 2 to 5 p.m. at 656 School St.
Donated backpacks should contain:
• Five pencils
• One 24 pack of crayons
• One 12 pack of colored pencils.
• One package of loose leaf paper
• Two spiral notebooks
• One box of tissues
• One pair of safety scissors
• One pencil sharpener
• One 12-inch ruler
• School glue
• One eraser
• One red pen
• Blue or black pens
• Typing paper (optional)
• A small surprise gift (optional)
Monetary donations will also be accepted. A donation of $25 will fill one needy child’s backpack.

CEC planning green home/business tour
The Colorado Environmental Coalition is seeking home and business owners who are willing to show innovative uses of sustainable energy practices – energy efficiency measures, solar and wind power, geothermal, and others – as part of a green homes/businesses tour.
The organization is also seeking volunteers to help plan the tour.
