Craig briefs: Caregiver Support Group meets May 16

A new Caregiver Support Group is forming to support Moffat County.

The group is open to anyone supporting someone who is elderly, disabled or chronically ill. The group will provide people with the “help and support you need while learning about community services now available,” according to a news release from the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association.

The first meeting is scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 16 at The Haven Adult Day Services Building in Hayden.

DOW offering ‘cast and blast’ for area youths

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will be sponsoring a cast and blast event for youths ages 10 to 17 on May 30. The clinic serves as an introduction to fly fishing and shotgun sports.

Transportation from Craig and Meeker will be provided. Lunch, gear and instruction also will be provided. There is no cost for the event.

Youths need to register in advance to reserve their spot. For registration and details, call Nikki Stout with the DOW at 878-6090.

VNA trying to help smokers quit the habit

That’s the amount of money a pack-a-day smoker spends on cigarettes per year, the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association reported Wednesday.

“Cigarettes are up to $6 per pack – can you really afford this habit?” the VNA stated in a news release.

Middle school hosting Q and A with parents

Craig Middle School is scheduled to host a question and answer session next week regarding the 2009-10 school year. The Q and A is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday in the CMS library.

Parents of current fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade students are invited to attend. For more information, call CMS principal Bill Toovey at 824-3289.

Grand Olde West Day set for May 23 to 25

The 19th Annual Grand Olde West Days is scheduled to take place May 23 to 25 in Craig.

A GOWD event organizers are promoting in advance is the Lane Frost Challenge, a bull riding competition scheduled for 7 p.m. May 23 at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.

VIP tickets are $40 and include a meal, drinks and a spot in a special seating section.

Tickets are available at the Craig Chamber of Commerce, 360 E. Victory Way, and Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply, 2355 W. Victory Way.
