Craig briefs: AARP schedules annual gathering

AARP Chapter No. 1418 will have its annual picnic at noon Aug. 24 at Craig City Park.

Chicken will be provided. Visitors are asked to bring a side dish, table service and beverages.

In case of rain, the picnic will take place at the Craig Fire Station, 419 Yampa Ave.

Opera at local church is slated for Wednesday

Colorado Northwestern Community College student government is sponsoring a performance by Emerald City Opera’s “The Elixir of Love” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1295 W. Ninth St. The event is free and open to the public.

Chamber will hold a business mixer Aug. 20

The Craig Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors is offering a business after-hours mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20. KRAI and 55 Country, 1111 W. Victory Way, is hosting the event. The event will recognize Frank and Tammie Hanel’s 20th year owning the radio station.

There will be door prizes, entertainment, food and drinks.

Last day to catch a wave in 2009: Saturday

The Craig Wave Pool is being renovated this fall. The last day to catch a wave for the 2009 swim season will be Saturday. The lap pool and diving well will continue to be open through Aug. 29.
