Contract positions cut at Twentymile Mine in Routt County

Steamboat Today

— Twentymile Mine in Routt County recently cut 47 contract positions, according to Peabody Energy Communications Manager Charlene Murdock.

Murdock wrote in an email Tuesday that all were production positions.

“We are making staffing adjustments to our contract workforce to match production volumes with customer demand,” Murdock wrote. “We continue to drive efficiencies to maintain our costs.”

In 2012, she wrote, “the underground mine produced about 8.3 million tons of coal, and the operation currently has a workforce of approximately 470 people.”
