CNCC’s Craig campus announces new VP

Colorado Northwestern Community College announced its new vice president for the Craig campus today, Janell Oberlander from Rapid City, South Dakota.

Oberlander and her family — including her husband and two children, a sophomore and a fifth-grader — will relocate to Craig in January with a projected start date of Jan. 21.

The interview process brought Oberlander and her husband to Craig in early December.

“Everywhere we went, whether it was where we stayed, the high school, or the college, it’s just a really nice community,” Oberlander said. “People were just really friendly and really welcoming.”

Oberlander served as dean of student services for 12 years at Western Dakota Technical Institute, where she also worked in career services, veterans services and served as admissions coordinator. Other prior experience includes work as a counselor at Montana Tech.

Most recently, Oberlander has worked as the executive director of the Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club, which serves youth ages 3 to 19.

Oberlander expressed excitement about CNCC’s offerings at the Craig campus, as well as enthusiasm for the state-of-the-art location.

“The community has such an awesome facility there,” Oberlander said. “There’s such a wide range of services that are offered… you’ve got everything from adult education to transfer degrees, you’ve got community education there, and the technical program. I’m really excited about the whole package; it’s just a beautiful opportunity.”
