What is your job title: Seventh-grade language arts teacher

Number of years in profession: 29 years

How did you get into this profession? After beginning college at Fort Lewis, I met students and teachers who inspired me.

What is the most challenging part of your job? Meeting the needs of diverse students is my biggest challenge.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Meeting new students each year, some whose parents I have had in the past.

What is a teaching tool or method that is unique to you? Maybe not unique to me, but I like to circulate throughout my room to make contact with most students.

Briefly describe your most heartwarming teaching/student experience. When students write about people they love, I enjoy that.

What are your favorite activities when you are not at school? My wife, DeeDee, and I walk our “doglets” often at Loudy-Simpson Park.

What is one thing about your profession that you wish the public at large understood? My colleagues are some of the hardest working people I know. This is not an 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. job.

What do you like most about Craig Middle School? The work climate is fun. Lunch with my colleagues re-energizes me for the afternoon.
