Claudia Peters: Religion page

This is in response to a letter to the editor written by Sean Davis in regard to the Friday edition’s religious articles.

Mr. Davis wrote to complain about an “attitude of arrogance expressing some sort of superiority in Christian beliefs” and “the suggestion that, regardless of how nonbelievers behave, we aren’t as good as Christians.”

He also wrote, “every week we are belitttled and degraded by the endless propaganda of the most publicly endorsed of religions.”

He was referring to non-Christians.

Mr. Davis makes a number of accusations toward the authors of the articles but offers not one quote to back up any of his accusations. I frequently read the articles and have not come across any that contain the content that Mr. Davis claims they have.

Yet he says that “every week we are belittled and degraded.”

Every week? Really?

Mr. Davis said he was offended by this. We live in a society where everyone seems to be offended by everything these days. I am sure if one with such proclivities toward being offended looked hard enough, they could find an offensive classified ad.

When I interact with people, I never ask their spiritual inclinations.

I just treat everyone with courtesy and respect. And I’m sure that Mr. Davis has been treated with courtesy and respect by plenty of Christians he has unknowingly encountered.

If Mr. Davis would like to submit an article regarding his beliefs to the paper, I suggest he do so. In the meantime, Mr. Davis, try to take a deep breath, relax and have a blessed day.
