Christina Oxley: Thank you Rotary
To the editor:
The staff and board of the Craig Chamber of Commerce and Moffat County Visitor Center would like to thank the Craig Rotary Club for cleaning the Marcia Car each year before it opens for public tours.
The Marcia is a 108-year-old private Pullman Car commissioned by David Moffat to view the progress of the construction of the railway from Denver to Salt Lake City, in which he was heavily invested.
Our community came together in 1953 to make the case that Marcia’s final resting place should be where the rail line ended — in Moffat County. They were successful, and the Chamber was given the responsibility of caring for and maintaining the car.
Each year, the members of Craig Rotary Club gather to give Marcia a deep cleaning after being closed for the winter. Their efforts precede the official opening of the Marcia Car for the season. We can’t thank them enough for all their work.
Stop by the Craig Chamber of Commerce and Moffat County Visitor Center for a tour of the car. The car is beautifully preserved and a wonderful example of 100-year-old innovation and opulence.
