Chris Gingrich: Week 5: Time to pick up obscure talents

The Week 4 scoring leaders looked like a throwback to the 2005 season, as Larry Johnson racked up 29 points, Brett Favre threw six touchdown passes for 34 points, and Laverneus Coles caught three touchdown passes for 105 yards and 28 points.

It also was a good week for some lesser-known talents who still are available in most leagues.

Steve Breaston, wide receiver, Arizona Cardinals – If Anquin Boldin misses any time, Breaston will be his replacement in the lineup. He caught nine passes for 122 yards Sunday against the Jets.

Kevin Walter, wide receiver, Houston Texans – I’ve already mentioned this guy before, but it’s worth repeating. He already has three touchdown receptions on the year, which is one shy of his total for last year. He should be a sure shot to get at least 10 touchdowns on the season.

Zach Miller, tight end, Oakland Raiders – If you are in need of a tight end right now, I recommend Miller. He’s on pace to get around 600 yards receiving, and it’s not a stretch to say he’ll get five touchdowns, either. He’s a player with great potential for this year, and he’s also a low-risk-for-a-high-reward-type of guy, based on the way he’s playing so far.

I’m not recommending Kyle Orton, starting quarterback of the Bears, as a long-term investment, but you have to like his odds going against a weak Detroit Lions defense in Week 5. If you’re in need of a quarterback because your main guy is on a bye week, I recommend picking him up for this one week only.

Ryan Grant owners have to be disappointed in what they’ve seen this far in the season. He’s not doing as well as his draft position would indicate, but I wouldn’t give up on him just yet. Just remember his 956 yards and eight touchdowns in limited starts last year and you should be able to find a way to keep him on your team for at least two more starts.

If Brian Westbrook misses his Week 5 start against the Redskins with his right ankle sprain, then look for Correll Buckhalter to start in his place again. Buckhalter racked up 14 points in Week 4 with 90 yards and a touchdown.

Bobby Engram and Deion Branch of the Seattle Seahawks are supposed to be ready for Week 5 against the New York Giants. They are good pickups right now because they have some good matchups during the fantasy football playoffs.

That’s all for this week, everyone. Good luck in Week 5.
