Business raised family

To the editor:

We were quite shocked and disheartened when we opened the Saturday Morning Press and read the headline, “Drug suspect’s business burns.”

That may be the way Michelle Perry sees it, or maybe it was an eye-catcher. However, being a family member, it is not.

We know Eaton’s Auto Service as a business that was built by Neldon and Betty Eaton in the early 1960s from the bottom up. This business raised a family. It was the main reason Neldon got up in the morning.

Eaton’s Auto Service was the place everyone took their vehicles to be fixed because they knew that Neldon and his mechanics knew what they were doing.

Ask any “old timer,” and he or she will tell you Eaton’s Auto Service was the place to go, not only to get your vehicle fixed by the best mechanic, but also to sit down and have a cup of coffee and visit for a while.

Neldon had a number of son-in-laws, and later a grandson working alongside him, with his wife, Betty, keeping the books in order.

After the decline of Neld–on’s health, he turned the business over to his grandson. We are guessing that is where you got your headline.

We just wanted to let people know who haven’t lived here for a long time and remind those of you who have that Eaton’s Auto Service was, at one time, and, in our hearts, still is, a fine, upstanding business that supported a family for more than 40 years.

Editor’s note: Neldon Lee Aldridge, 42, owns Eaton’s. Aldridge was one of 15 suspects arrested in December on methamphetamine possession and distribution charges.
