Bullpups Spikers roll past Falcons
The Craig Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams swept the SoRoCo Falcons Thursday at the middle school gym.
The seventh-graders downed the Falcons, 15-1 and 15-6, while the eighth-graders beat their counterparts, 15-9 and 15-8.
Seventh-grade coach Ann Stehlin said the Bullpups served well and that was the difference in the match.
“If we serve well, which we do, then it’s pretty tough for the other team to return our serve,” said Stehlin. “It’s a good win for us. I think I will probably send my B kids to SoRoCo when we play them again so hopefully it will be a little bit more of a game for both sides.”
Eighth-grade coach Kelly MacLaughlin praised her team’s effort against the Falcons.
“I was very pleased with the win,” said MacLaughlin. “All week the kids have been working really hard and tonight the kids came out and did the job they needed to do.”
MacLaughlin said the Bullpups have a perfect record so far, but she knows Meeker will be a tough test on Saturday when they come to town.
“The season has been going great,” said MacLaughlin. “Meeker is always tough and we will be prepared for them.”
“This group of seventh-graders are way ahead of what I have had in the past 20 years,” said Stehlin. “These kids have a lot of potential.
“They work really hard and they are dedicated to this sport and I think that good things will happen.”
The Bullpups return to action at 9 a.m. Saturday when they host Meeker at the middle school gyms.
The C team starts the competition, followed by the B team and then the A team will take the court.
“Meeker is always well-coached and they are usually a very tough team,” said Stehlin. “We are going to have to work hard.
“Hopefully we can have a good practice on Friday and the kids will then be ready to play on Saturday.”
