Bulldogs team up for win in volleyball
5-game victory doubles Western Slope win total
October 4, 2008
Wins have been hard to come by this year for the Moffat County High School volleyball team, but when it does win, it makes it exciting.
The Bulldogs picked up their second Western Slope League win of the season with a 25-17, 21-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-10 comeback against Glenwood Springs on Friday.
“We worked really hard for that win,” Bulldog coach Brianna Montgomery said. “We really needed it.”
Both league wins have come against teams the Bulldogs lost to in three games on the road. The latest loss was Thursday night against Rifle, a team the Bulldogs beat in five games in Craig earlier in the season.
“It was hard for us to come back today from last night,” Bulldog senior Ariel Sanchez said. “But we worked hard and we hustled and we trusted each other.”
Glenwood coach Sean Lively complimented the Bulldogs for “wanting it really bad tonight.”

He didn’t see anything major his girls could have done different in the loss.
“We just made some tiny mistakes and they added up,” he said. “We saw our potential for a while tonight but just couldn’t hold on.”
When the Demons where hitting to their potential, they were hitting the ball hard. The attack of sophomore Kenzi Caple, senior Anna Gauldin and junior Taryn Pearce gave the Demons momentum in the second and third games.
Momentum went to the Bulldogs when they were able to scrap and keep the ball alive against the Demons’ attacks.
“We might not be the biggest and strongest out there all the time,” Sanchez said, “but we work hard and hustle well as a team.”
“Glenwood is a good team and for us to be successful, we had to play as a team,” she said. “We were able to get over a mental block tonight that has haunted us all season.”
Part of the block breakage may have been the home-court advantage.
“The fans in this league are passionate, and it’s hard to win on the road,” Lively said. “You usually get a team at its best when they are at home, and that was certainly the case tonight.”
