Bulldogs chew up Huskies, 54-32

Third-quarter scoring puts away Battle Mountain

John Vandelinder

— The Moffat County varsity football team put on a rushing clinic, piling up 353 yards on the ground, to beat Battle Mountain High School, 54-32, on Friday night.

Bulldog running back J.T. Haddan ran for 121 yards and four scores, leading the way for the Bulldogs.

“J.T. is a workhorse,” head coach Kip Hafey said. “We just give him the ball and watch him go.”

Eli Buckner ran for another 138 yards, as the Bulldogs ran a power formation at the Huskies.

The game was tight at the midway point, 14-6, but that slim lead didn’t last long.

Moffat County came into the third quarter with force, on both sides of the ball.

The Bulldogs defense forced three consecutive 3-and-outs, while the offense scored on three straight possessions.

“We adjusted well at the break,” Hafey said. “We wanted to pound the ball, and we did.”

Battle Mountain tallied 275 yards through the air, most of that coming in the fourth quarter with the game already decided.

“Our quarterback threw the ball well,” head coach Jason Sedlak said. “We just had too little, too late.”

Next up for the Bulldogs is a road contest against Palisade High School at 7 p.m. Thursday.
