Broncos fan gets recognition

Bruce Tippets

Denver Broncos mania is alive and well in Craig. Just ask Shane Hadley, 25, who was named super collector of the month in the Beckett Football Card Monthly for October.

According to Hadley, he has been collecting sports memorabilia for many years.

“I have just been collecting Broncos stuff for 17 years and I have always enjoyed John Elway,” said Hadley. “The maganize that I have priced all my stuff is a national publication. I sent them a picture of my collection here in my parent’s office.

“I got an article in the magazine with a picture of myself and it even says Craig, Colo. We got some local recognition.”

Hadley said his collections include autographs from John Elway, Terrell Davis and more.

“I have many one-of-a-kind autographed items including a game-worn autographed John Elway jersey, which I won from Safeway and the John Elway Foundation in a drawing in 1986 and an NFL football signed by Floyd Little and Terrell Davis,” said Hadley. “I also have an 8×10 John Elway photograph, an Upper Deck Elway Game Jersey card, a 1998 Collector’s Edge Quad card with a piece of Elway’s pants, a Collector’s Edge Terrell Davis Game Ball card, and three autographed books that Terrell signed for us at a Denver bookstore.”

Hadley said he first started to watch the Broncos when they signed Elway in 1983 in a trade from the Baltimore Colts.

“When I was really little I had memories of my uncle running into the house saying we have Elway and that time I didn’t know what he was saying and that was the start of it all,” said Hadley. “I took a lot of tough beatings with all those Super Bowl losses. It was really nice to see Elway get it done.”

Hadley not only is a fan, but he also goes to most home Broncos game at Mile High Stadium.

“For the last two years we have gone to every single home game except for one or two,” said Hadley. “When we first started our seats were on the fifth level and we were out of breath by the time we got up there.

Right now we have seats in section one, row one on the front level on the 20-yard level and those seats are awesome.”

“Everybody else thinks that I am kind of crazy because when they are sitting down for their weekend I am ready to go down to the game,” said Hadley. “I wouldn’t change anything for the world and just because they are having a rough season. I will still go down and watch them play.”
