Update: Yampa Avenue water main problem fixed
3 p.m. update: City crews have fixed the water main break, and water is restored to the 300 and 400 blocks of Yampa Avenue in Craig.
A broken water line resulted in water being shut off to the 300 and 400 blocks of Yampa Avenue in Craig early Wednesday morning.
The water main broke near Robinson Welding and Design on 308 Yampa Ave. near the railroad tracks. The business called in to report water rushing near their front door, said Craig Water and Wastewater Director Mark Sollenberger.
The break occurred due to corrosion that caused a large hole in the pipe, which can sometimes occur due to certain types of soil in the area, Sollenberger said.
Crews responded quickly and were already preparing to re-pressurize the system by about 10 a.m. Sollenberger estimated water should be turned back on to the downtown blocks within the hour, barring any unforeseen problems.
9:02 a.m. On the 1000 block of Sage Court, community services personnel in Craig responded to a code enforcement call. A resident was issued a verbal warning for a code violation.
