Briefs for Sept. 13, 2011: Elkhead boat ramp to close on Oct. 2

Elkhead Reservoir State Park will close the boat ramp for the season on Oct. 2. The boat ramp hours until Oct. 2 are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

After the boat ramp closure, only hand-launched watercraft will be able to access the lake. The entry and exit points are at Greenwood Cove and the northeast access area.

Mixer scheduled for Thursday

The next Craig Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Business After-Hours Mixer is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sports Page Bar at the Holiday Inn of Craig, 200 S. Colo. Hwy. 13.

Castle Ranch Steakhouse will cater food for the event, which is free to anyone 21 and older.

SAFE offers movie on football field

Stopping Abuse Forever (SAFE), a high school program of Advocates Crisis Support Services, is hosting a movie showing on Friday.

SAFE, an organization that educates about healthy dating habits, will show "Reviving Ophelia," a Lifetime movie about a teenage girl in an abusive relationship, at 7 p.m. Friday at the Moffat County High School football field, 900 Finley Lane.

The event is free and open to the community. Concessions will be available for sale.

Humane Society hosts bake sale

The Humane Society of Moffat County is hosting a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at City Market, 505 W. Victory Way.

All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society.

CASA offers open house today

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) is hosting an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. today at 439 Breeze St., suite 204.

The open house is designed for people interested in learning about CASA or finding out how to become a CASA volunteer.
