Briefs for March 11, 2011: DAR to honor essay contest winners

The Augusta Wallihan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265, 419 E. Victory Way.
The meeting program will include awards for an essay contest. Students in the sixth through eighth grades wrote about the life of Paul Revere. Winners are from Craig and Steamboat Springs.

Car care clinic set for Saturday
A free car care clinic for single mothers, seniors, and disabled residents is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Cook Chevrolet, 1776 W. Victory Way, in Craig.
Car care clinic staffers will check all fluids and top them off, if needed; test anti-freeze; air up tires and check treads; and check lights, battery connections, horns, wipers and belts.
Staffers can also arrange for discounted repairs and oil changes, if possible.

The clinic is by appointment only, and is a project by a small group from The Journey at First Baptist.

Daffodil sales to benefit patients
Daffodils will be on sale for $5 a bunch starting March 15 in Craig, Hayden and Steamboat Springs. Proceeds benefit hospice care for terminally ill patients in the Yampa Valley.
Daffodils will be sold at City Market, Safeway, and the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association offices in Craig and Steamboat Springs, as well as Ace at the Curve, Alpine Floral, the Clark Store and Hayden Mercantile.

Legion slated to raffle rifle
American Legion Post 62 in Craig is going to raffle an M1-A1 7.62 mm rifle during the April 30 bingo game at the Elks Lodge, 43 W. Victory Way.
The raffle is a fundraiser for the American Legion.
