Briefs for June 30, 2011: Fundraising teen dance set for Friday

The Thunder Cheer team is hosting a Fourth of July teen dance on Friday.

The dance runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at Gymstar Fun ‘N Fit Gymnastics, 315 Tucker St. Those ages 12 to 18 are invited.

The cost is $5 per person and all proceeds benefit the Thunder Cheer team.

Pet Mates Calendar voting set for today

The Humane Society of Moffat County will be conducting public voting, by donation, for the 2012 Pet Mates Calendar from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Alice Pleasant Park in downtown Craig during the weekly summer Farmer’s Market.

Pizza Hut hosts fundraiser for Sunset Elementary

Sunset Elementary School is having a fundraiser with the Craig Pizza Hut, 1070 W. Victory Way, on July 14.

A portion of sales throughout the day will be donated to the school if customers indicate that they would like to contribute to the fundraiser. The offer is valid on dine-in carryout or delivery.

Craig Daily Press seeking new Editorial Board members

The Craig Daily Press is seeking people to participate on its next Editorial Board, which begins July 5.

The newspaper would particularly like to invite a teenager to serve on the board.

Editorial Board members meet from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays to discuss the newspaper’s opinion pieces for that week’s Wednesday and Saturday editions. The first meeting will be held on July 5 due to the Independence Day holiday.

Editorial Board terms last three months.

Library to be closed for Fourth of July holiday

All branches of the Moffat County Libraries will be closed Saturday through Monday in observance of Independence Day.

Monthly Variety Show set for Friday

The Craig Variety Show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265, 419 E. Victory Way.

Events typically take place the first Friday of every month.

American Legion bingo scheduled for Saturday

American Legion Post 62 is scheduled to host bingo Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 43 W. Victory Way.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and games begin at 5:45 p.m.

CNCC seeking artwork for new campus

Colorado Northwestern Community College is seeking art for purchase to include its new campus buildings in Craig.

Artists in Moffat County, Rio Blanco County, Hayden and Oak Creek are eligible to present their art for consideration.

Entries must be postmarked by July 13.

Horse show scheduled for July 9

The Yampa Valley Horse Show Association is hosting an open horse show next month.

The show is scheduled for 8 a.m. July 9 at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

The show will include three divisions — English, Western and hunter/jumper — in three age groups — 13 and younger, 14 to 18, and 19 and older. There are also beginner classes for all ages.

Humane Society seeking items for annual garage sale

The Humane Society of Moffat County is currently collecting items for its annual garage sale in late July.

A date for the sale is still being determined. The organization is accepting all items except adult clothing and large appliances. If anyone would like to donate, call Ann Anderson at 826-2717.
