Volunteers are needed to judge more than 400 classic Mustang cars beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday in Steamboat Springs. No experience is necessary. Judging will be held until noon. Volunteers receive a free 2005 Mustang T-shirt.

Organization seeking language volunteers

Communidad Integrada/Integrated Community is inviting English speaking community members to be a part of a unique program that involves one-on-one mentoring to local immigrants who have a desire to learn English. Currently, 20 volunteers teach English for an hour and a half each week during a three-month period to more than 25 English learners from Mexico, Africa and Central and South America.

Integrated Community is holding an English teacher training for those who are interested in being a part of the cultural exchange, getting to know someone from Moffat County immigrant community, teaching them English and serving as a cultural liaison for them while they learn the community and local culture. No foreign language or teaching experience necessary.

Crime Stoppers seeking community help

Between May 5 and 12, an unknown person or people cut the padlock off a fuel storage tank at the Moffat Count Road and Bridge Shop in Hamilton. About 156 gallons of unleaded gasoline were removed.

TMH, Daily Press win advertising award

The Memorial Hospital received a bronze award in the 22nd Annual Healthcare Marketing Advertising award contest sponsored by the Healthcare Marketing Report for an advertisement designed for publication in the Craig Daily Press. The ad, which highlighted the new food service program at TMH, was titled “Fresh. Tasty. Unique.”

Harper Fire monitored near Dinosaur park

Dinosaur National Monument fire officials are still monitoring a lightning fire west of Harper’s Corner Observation Point. Even with the recent rainfall received in the area, the fire is still burning. Fire officials will continue to monitor the fire.

Since the fire is a natural ignition, it is being managed for resource benefits as a fire use fire. Fire plays a functional role in the ecosystem, and without it the ecosystem is being altered. The fire will be suppressed if it’s no longer achieving resource benefits or public safety or smoke becomes a concern.

Lighting is very common in the summer. If you see lighting and hear thunderclaps within 30 seconds of seeing lighting, it is advisable to take the following precautions:

• Take shelter in a vehicle or building if possible.
• If outdoors, find a low spot away from tall trees, wire fences, utility lines and other elevated conductive objects.
• If only isolated trees are nearby, keep your distance at least twice the height of the tree.
• In open country, crouch low minimizing contact with the ground. You can use a pack to sit on, but never lay on the ground.
• Don’t stay on ridge tops, in wide-open areas, near ledges or rock outcroppings.
