After 18 months without a president, Colorado Northwestern Community College has a new leader.

The school announced Mon-day that Nancy McCallin, president of the Colorado Community College System, hired John C. Boyd as the school’s new president.

Boyd, who is the interim provost of the Grand Strand Campus at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in South Carolina, will start March 13.

“I am delighted that John Boyd is taking over the CNCC presidency. He has a strong background in education, business and leadership and is a perfect fit for the CNCC,” McCallin said. “Along with experience and proven management skills, he brings to the college a new perspective and boundless energy and enthusiasm for making positive changes.”

Boyd said taking over CNCC is an honor.

“I look forward to working with the CNCC faculty and staff and the community as we strive together to move the college forward. Working as a team I know that we’ll be able to make a difference as we plan for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. CNCC is a great institution, and I look forward to playing a role in its future,” he said.

Boyd and his wife anticipate traveling to Rangely and Craig for brief visits to the college campuses and communities this weekend.

In addition to serving as interim provost at Horry-Georgetown, Boyd is a professor and chairman of the school’s criminal justice department.

McCallin chose Boyd from three finalists. The other two finalists were Weldon Sleight, associate dean for continuing education at Utah State University and Robert Behunin, associate executive director of Utah State University.
