Boulder man killed in wreck near Craig

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

A Boulder man died Saturday morning after his motorcycle hit a deer on Colorado Highway 13 south of Craig.

Richard Jack, 61, was riding a 2006 BMW motorcycle south near mile marker 88 just after 7 a.m. when a deer jumped into his path, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol. The motorcycle hit the deer, and Jack was ejected.

A 2004 GMC pickup was heading north on Highway 13 when the wreck happened.

The driver, 38-year-old Craig resident Michael Kirby braked, pulled partly onto the northbound shoulder and stopped, according to the release.

The motorcycle slid into the northbound shoulder, struck the guardrail and hit the front of the pickup.

Jack slid into the northbound lane and struck the pickup’s left front tire, the release stated.

Troopers responded at about 7:20 a.m.

Jack was taken to The Memorial Hospital in Craig, where he died from his injuries.

He was wearing a helmet.

Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed were not contributing factors in the crash, according to the State Patrol.

The Craig Police Department, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Craig Fire/Rescue also responded.
