Bob Grubb: Religious discussion

To the editor:

I read with interest the “more diversity needed” letter by Sean Davis in the Wednesday, Aug. 12 issue of the Daily Press.

I quite agree that “this community includes a far more diverse sect of religious and spiritual ideas than one expressed on what is essentially a Christian church page on Friday.”

Dale Potter, of Yampa Valley Baptist, does run a basic Bible-oriented column often urging people to come to a personal commitment and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Other Christian teachers from the community contribute articles on religious themes.

I disagree that this should be offensive, or that this “belittled and degraded” the many local pagans, atheists and agnostics of Craig. I strongly back the groups expressing their “diverse set of religious and spiritual ideas : in a forum as public as a newspaper.”

In this light, I would like to invite Sean Davis and other interested citizens of Craig to join me in a book discussion group that would cover both atheism and Christianity. I plan to start with Richard Dawkins’ “The God Delusion,” and Timothy Keller’s “Reasons for God.”

The group would first meet at 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at McDonald’s for coffee at the south circular table. A bald headed, white bearded fellow in bib overalls should be there.
