Bo Barnes: Where’s the respect?

To the editor:

I was completely horrified during the parade Saturday. No one took off their hats or placed their hand over their hearts when the veterans float went by, except me and the woman I was with.

To me, that was not only rude, but disrespectful to the men and women on that float.

We need to remember what Memorial Day is about. It was started to honor our fallen soldiers, who put their lives on the line so we have the right to fly our flag. We need to teach our children what our forefathers had to go through for us to have our flag and what the people who have and are serving in the military go through.

Next time you see the American flag waving, give it its due respect, along with telling our men and women in uniform thank you.
