BLM says ‘thanks’ for help with fires in Moffat County

To the Editor:
On behalf of the teams in charge of managing and suppressing the Pinyon Ridge and Bear fires, I would like to extend special thanks to Moffat County for its willingness to help in understanding the local roads and terrain. Firefighters are often from different parts of the country and rely heavily on local knowledge to help them navigate remote territories under emergency situations. The Moffat County Sheriff’s Department also deserves a special thanks for its expertise in preparations to manage an evacuation, which fortunately was not necessary.
We also thank reporter Josh Nichols, and the Craig Daily Press for accurate and timely coverage of the fires, keeping Moffat County citizens up-to-date on fire activity.
And thanks for all the help from various sources. WalMart in Grand Junction donated two pallets of drinking water to keep the troops hydrated during the dry, hot days they were working on the fires. The Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post donated 15 newspapers each day to help firefighters keep aware of outside events while they were camped out. Kmart in Craig contributed to the fire-fighting effort by providing supplies to help keep vehicle windows clean during those dusty, smoky days. These supplies contributed to our highest priority, which is firefighter and public safety.
To all of you and to others who contributed in many ways, we say thanks.
