Bitter Fire contained at 700 acres in Moffat County

The Bitter Fire that started Friday in Moffat County southwest of Maybell was fully contained at about noon Saturday.

Burning about 700 acres, the blaze was ignited by lightning near the base of Wolf Mountain near the Bitter Brush State Wildlife Area and affected only grass on both private and Bureau of Land Management property, with no structures of people harmed, according to Craig Interagency Dispatch Center.

Responders included a Moffat County engine, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, two single-engine air tankers out of Casper, Wyoming and BLM.
