Bicycle crime spree continues: On the Record — Aug. 3 through 5

Friday, Aug. 3

12:38 a.m. Near Village Inn, officers with the Craig Police Department responded to a car alarm. Three people were contacted, and officers learned that the owner had set off the car alarm.

2:38 a.m. On the 900 block of Herring Circle, officers responded to a car alarm. Officers learned that the owner had set off the alarm accidentally.

2:48 a.m.  In Craig, officers investigated a suspected assault.

7:50 a.m. Near North Kum & Go, officers responded to a report of a bicycle that had been found. The bicycle was taken to the Public Safety Center for safe keeping.

10:51 a.m. On the 900 block of West First Street, officers reunited a woman with keys she had lost.

11:54 a.m. On the 800 block of Legion Street, a bicycle was found. Officers took it to the Public Safety Center for safe keeping.

2:21 p.m. Between Walgreens and McDonalds, officers took a report of a lost backpack containing a large sum of money. Later, the backpack and its contents were found and returned to the owner.

3:10 p.m. On the 800 block of Yampa Avenue, officers investigated a disturbance.

4:39 p.m. On the 700 block of Finley Lane, officers responded to a report of computer fraud.

4:57 p.m.  On the 900 block of West First Street, officers arrested a 22-year-old Craig woman on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal mischief and false imprisonment.

7:59 p.m. On the 800 block of Yampa Avenue, officers investigated a hit-and-run crash. A person driving a red Subaru backed into a Chevrolet Cavalier before leaving the scene. No injuries were reported, and the incident is under investigation.

9:36 p.m. On the 700 block of Barclay Street, officers investigated a report of damage to a 1984 Ford Bronco. Suspected vandalism resulted in slashed tires, a cracked and smashed windshield. Additionally, the left fender appeared to have been kicked in. The incident is under investigation.  

10:29 p.m. On the 2000 block of West Victory Way, officers issued a citation to a juvenile who was suspected of shoplifting.

11:55 p.m. Near the intersection of Stock Drive and U.S. Highway 40, officers received a report of a suspicious person. A person had pulled over to use a cellphone.

Saturday, Aug. 4

1:38 a.m. At the City Pool, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was unoccupied.

3:16 a.m. On the north side of City Park, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. They were unable to locate anyone in the park.

8:04 a.m. Near the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Mack Lane, officers investigated a crash between the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe and a deer, resulting in the death of the deer and a broken windshield on the vehicle. The driver was not injured.

12:09 p.m. On the 1400 block of Yampa Avenue, officers took a report of a stolen bicycle. The bike was allegedly taken the night before. The incident is under investigation.

4:37 p.m. On the 2100 block of B Street, officers investigated a report of suspicious people. People in a late-model van with front end damage were questioned. One of the parties had two warrants from Delta County that were not valid in Craig. One was issued a county summons for traffic violations.

7:27 p.m. Near the Superwash, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person. A man approached the reporting party at Walmart. She said he was trying to scam her by selling magazines. Officers were unable to locate the man.

7:38 p.m. In Craig, officers investigating a cold case involving an alleged assault.

10:19 p.m. Near the intersection of Sandrock Drive and Ranney Street, officers responded to a report of shots fired. A person thought he heard a shot, but said it could have been fireworks. Officer noticed fireworks in the area but they were unable to locate the point of origin.

Sunday, Aug. 5

12:46 a.m. Near the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Mack Lane, officers pulled over and warned a bicyclist who was riding without a headlight.

10:05 a.m. In Craig, officers attempted to serve a warrant.

12:42 p.m. On the 500 block of Seventh Avenue West, officers investigated the misuse of a VISA card.

1:09 p.m. On the 2300 block of West Victory Way, officers investigated a possible weapons violation. Someone attempted to purchase a firearm they may not have been allowed to buy. The incident is under investigation.

5:02 p.m. On the 200 block of South Colorado Highway 13, a wallet was found and turned into officers, who took it to the Public Safety Center for safe keeping.

6:37 p.m. At City Park, officers made contact with a man on a bicycle who was issued with a warning.

8:05 p.m. Near the intersection of Jeremiah Way and East Ninth Street, officers responded to a report of criminal mischief. Four children were said to be throwing rocks. When they arrived, officers were unable to locate any children in the area.  

8:20 p.m. On the 600 block of Wickes Avenue, officers responded to a caller reporting an accident. The witness said the driver of a vehicle hit a parked car, denting the driver’s side door and taking off the mirror. A driver was issued with a citation.  

9:05 p.m. On the first block of East Fourth Street, officers took a report of a stolen bicycle. The incident is under investigation.

10:09 p.m. On the 700 block of Barclay Street, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on a warrant for assault in the second degree.
