In 2000, Craig resident Dean Brosious was at a career crossroads.

After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in business and economics, the Ralston, Wyo., native quickly found a job as a banker, a career that would transplant him from Powell, Wyo., through Glenwood Springs to Craig.

However, after living in Craig for several years, the bank he was working at was sold, and after running a land title company for 10 years, Brosious, 60, who operates LPL Financial Services at 101 W. Victory Way, decided he wanted to help people manage their own money rather than lend it to them.

“At the bank I would loan people money to try and start businesses and be able to buy the things they want to,” he said. “I’m at the opposite end of it now where they bring me money rather than me loaning them money.”

Brosious, who was voted best financial advisor as part of the Craig Daily Press’ Best of Moffat County contest, said along with being a bit less stressful than banking, financial planning affords him the ability to help people.

“It gives you an opportunity to help people reach their dreams, fulfill their dreams,” he said. “And that’s kind of fun for everyone involved.”

Chris Toovey, Brosious’ administrative assistant at LPL, said his supervisor’s ability to listen and desire to help make him a good advisor and a good boss.

“He takes time to listen to what people need,” she said. “He listens to what (his employees) need as well. He’s very caring.”

From Brosious’ perspective, the temperament of area residents makes them easy to assist.

“The people of Moffat County are really what I call no-nonsense and very straight forward,” he said. “You can be very direct and you don’t have to do all of the things you would have to do in the city as far as gaining trust because in a smaller community people know you and you know them. We’re able to get down to business and get from point A to point B fairly easily.“

A lot of the clients I have now are people that I dealt with when I was at the bank, and it’s been fun to watch their success. This town is really loyal.”

In addition to professional benefits, Brosious, who serves on the Yampa Valley Electric Association Board and Yampa Valley Bank advisory board, among other volunteer endeavors, said Moffat County has been a great place for him and his wife, Marianne, to raise their two children, Jennifer and Adam.

“This town has been great to me and my family,” he said. “We’ve enjoyed it, right from the start.”
