Best of Moffat County: Craig coffee shop wins top coffee again
Moffat County coffee lovers can thank Wyoming and Montana for their little taste of java joy.
Mudd Shack owner Dixie Migatter got the idea for her business from similar coffee stores there.
“I saw some in Wyoming and Montana and thought it would be a good idea,” she said. “It’s worked out pretty good.”
After seeing those other places, Migatter just “kind of put it together myself.”
And 15 years later, coffee connoisseurs keep coming back to her tiny drive-through shack on the grounds on Craig’s Centennial Mall.
On a recent cool morning, business was brisk. Migatter has a knack for remembering her loyal customers’ orders.
That’s because the Mudd Shack has been around such a long time, she says.
“We’ve been here for 15 years. In this little place,” the Craig resident said.
The loyal customers and good coffee paid off again for the Mudd Shack. It again won Best Coffee in the annual Best Of Moffat County competition.
Why is that, she was asked?
“We’re fast and friendly,” she said. “And because we are nice.”
There might be one other reason why, she said, and that’s her secret ingredient.
She uses filtered water for her coffee.
“It’s the best,” she said.
