Firefighters reported on Sunday that the Beaver Creek Fire was the most active it has been in nearly a week.

The fire stood at 36,435 acres and was 44 percent contained as of Monday morning.

Firefighters were expecting the fire to again be active Monday due to the weather.

Nearly 200 firefighters are still working to control the blaze northwest of Walden.

Firefighters spent Monday afternoon working to keep the fire south of a U.S. Forest Service road in the northwest portion of the blaze.

There was also some fire movement 4 miles northwest of Big Creek Lake, near the easternmost portion of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness area.

The fire started June 18, and the cause remains unknown.

By late July, the firefighting efforts had reportedly costed about $15 million.
